Veldtog Afrikaans – part of an exciting project celebrating Afrikaans in all its facets.
In 2014, Uppe Marketing was approached to initiate a project that would address the image of Afrikaans and to create an awareness promoting its positive aspects. From this Veldtog Afrikaans and a website, afrikaans.com, originated and after extensive research,Veldtog Afrikaans was launched at The Venue, Melrose Arch on 26 May 2016.
The key message of this campaign is: “Hoe lyk jou Afrikaans?” (“What does your Afrikaans look like?”). It extends the invite to all South Africans, not only Afrikaansspeaking people, to celebrate and explore Afrikaans in its diversity.
A conventional campaign comprising radio, TV and printed media is combined with digital as well as social media campaigns in order to reach a wider audience.
The messages are adapted for all platforms so that diversity becomes an integral part, not only of the campaign message, but also in the execution thereof.
The website, www.afrikaans.com, is designed to give exposure to all the projects that resonate with the key message and objectives of Veldtog Afrikaans; it’s a place where the public can find information about the language or can be redirected to the appropriate information. All communication in the initial campaign is aimed at directing traffic to afrikaans.com.
Part of the Afrikaans campaign is to introduce patrons, ambassadors and other rolemodels. This strategy closely follows the strategy of other successful, international, multi-media campaigns.
Visit afrikaans.com and read more about our patrons. People such as Breyten Breytenbach, Debra Meyer and Katinka Heyns. Then there are our ambassadors – individuals who through a variety of projects and initiatives are making a difference at grass-roots level – in Afrikaans.
Maybe you would like to enter our competition. Go to our competition page on afrikaans.com for more information. We want to know: What does your Afrikaans look like?
